Desert Hills Glamping Camp

The dramatic, apricot landscapes and ice-cream scoop dunes are the main reason most travellers add Sossusvlei to their Namibia itinerary – and if you’re looking for a practical but stylish base, add Desert Hills Glamping, too. The camp sits 17 kilometres south of the Sesriem turnoff (on a road that any vehicle can manage), on a ridge in a private farm that overlooks a blissfully-quiet valley. It’s close enough to the dunes for the morning run-out at dawn, but far enough away to feel totally off-grid when you’re back at camp.

12 canvas-and-timber tents are strung along the high ground, all facing outwards towards the view. Mornings are spent at Sossusvlei catching the dunes in the magic dawn light, whilst afternoons bring desert drives and crisp sundowners. Back at camp there’s a stylish lounge, bar and dining room spilling out onto a shaded patio with a fire pit, and a pool for the days when the desert turns up the heat.
