The clue is in the name at fuss-free Elephant Pools in the heart of Khwai. Positioned right beside a watering hole that draws elephants all day and most of the night, you’re never far away from an enormous grey pachyderm! The view from the raised dining area takes in the “elephant pool” itself as well as the mopane woodland beyond, and the cycle of arrivals (and departures, when a younger bull pushes things…) is your endless entertainment.
Eight tented rooms on wooden platforms make up the camp. Each has an outdoor, ensuite shower and the design is simple and practical. The whole property is a groups-only setup, which means you’ll have the place to yourselves: just you and your group in the lounge and on the morning drive. Game drives run twice daily in the Khwai Private Reserve, walking safaris are available in season, and an underground hide brings you eye-level with whatever is at the pool, making for some predictably exceptional photography.
